Monterrey, Mexico, Sep 26 (EFE).- Gunmen killed at least four people early Thursday at a bar in northern Mexico and wounded two others, authorities said.

The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. at the Chatos bar on the west side of this northern industrial city, capital of the border state of Nuevo Leon, a spokesperson for the state Attorney General’s Office said.

The unknown masked assailants burst into the bar, headed to the area where the group of men being targeted were sitting and opened fire with rifles.

Police later arrived to cordon off the area and investigate the attack, while the wounded were rushed to a local hospital.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victims or indicate a motive for the multiple homicide.

Shootouts and attacks have become commonplace over the past three years in Nuevo Leon, where two drug cartels have been fighting for control of the state.
