The Jaguar F-Type Coupé comes in three variants: two with powerful V-6 engines (the F-Type and the F-Type S) and an R version featuring a turbocharged, 550-horsepower V-8. (A convertible option debuted in 2012.) They all have plenty of zip, with top speeds north of 160 miles per hour. But unless you’re logging track time—we did a few laps at the middle-of-nowhere Motorland Aragón track in Spain just to witness the hidden rear spoiler deploy at speed—the feature you may come to appreciate most is a new torque vectoring system that applies a subtle bit of braking when needed to get the car through corners quickly and safely. In addition to the lightweight attributes therein, the all-aluminum chassis construction allows Jaguar to dispense with B-pillars (those vertical supports between the front- and back-seat windows) in favor of a long, appealing roofline that flows unimpeded from the front to the rear. Starts at $65,000; jaguarusa.com.

We did laps in the new McLaren 650S at the Monticello Motor Club (67 Cantrell Rd.; 855-662-2582; monticellomotorclub.com), a private track a couple of hours north of New York City. Monticello features 4.1 miles of winding asphalt with multiple elevation changes. There is a mile-long straightaway, but the 650S, with a top speed of 207 miles per hour and a zero-to-60-miles-per-hour rating of 2.9 seconds, covers that in a few blinks of an eye. But what really impresses when you’re going fast are the Formula 1–inspired brakes. The British-made 650S needs about 95 feet of space to decelerate from 60 to zero miles per hour, but that doesn’t tell the whole story: The light touches on the carbon-ceramic brakes that keep the lightweight carbon-fiber chassis on track when cornering, and the Airbrake rear spoiler that deploys during heavy braking, show how special this car really is. The 650S, which comes in coupé ($270,000) and convertible spider ($284,000) models, is an upgrade from the McLaren 12C, and its features are about 25 percent brand-new. cars.mclaren.com.

At first glance, the Soleil Motors Anadi might appear like a Corvette. But look closer and you’ll see a Corvette reimagined from an Italian-supercar point of view. The Anadi sports a supercharged V-8 engine with 651 horsepower and a top speed of 202 miles per hour. It’s quick, going from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, and the interior is what you’d expect from a top Milanese designer—lots of exotic wood and fine leather. Only 25 will be made this year, with most going to customers in the Middle East. Starts at $300,000; soleilmotors.com. -

How do you safely make a turn in a fast car? The new 2015 Lexus RC 350 F Sport, characterized by its massive mesh grille, gives a driver significant help with an intelligent suspension system that monitors a number of technical variables to manage front- and rear-wheel steering angles. At lower speeds, the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions; both turn in the same direction at higher speeds. The result is better cornering through curves, more grip on the road and more overall control of the car. Available in the fall; pricing to be announced; lexus.com.

The Toyota FT-1 is definitely not a Camry. The concept car (not yet slated for production) is notable because it represents the company’s intention to rediscover its sports-car form in the near future. The A-pillars (the first set of vertical supports between the windshield and front-seat windows) are set far back to accommodate a wraparound windshield for better visibility through corners, and the positioning of the cockpit rearwards is designed to improve weight distribution. At high speeds, a retractable rear wing deploys and tilts forward for more downforce and stability. toyota.com.

The venerable Italian Alfa Romeo brand is slated to relaunch in the United States this summer with the introduction of its 4C sports car. The new addition, its curvy lines in a compact package, has a turbocharged four-cylinder, 237-horsepower engine. It isn’t the most powerful car on the road, but its light weight (2,315 pounds) means you’ll experience plenty of zip. Each of the 500 launch-edition models ($68,400) will be individually numbered. After that the two-seater—of which roughly a thousand will be sold in North America a year—will start at $53,900. alfaromeo.com.
