Cancun, Mexico, Mar 15 (EFE).- Gunmen burst into a restaurant-bar in the suburbs of this Caribbean resort city and opened fire, killing seven and wounding four others, Mexican authorities said.
Sources with the Quintana Roo state Attorney General’s Office said the assailants armed with automatic rifles had arrived at the La Sirenita establishment – located just outside Cancun – in two vehicles.
They said the wounded were taken to different area hospitals.
After the shooting, municipal and state police and army soldiers cordoned off the crime scene.
Only four of the seven people killed have been identified, including taxi drivers’ union delegate Francisco Achach, the state AG’s office said Thursday.
Authorities have not yet indicated a possible motive for the attack.
Taxi drivers, some of whom supplement their income by serving as lookouts for drug cartels, using cell phones and two-way radios to report on movements of police and military units, are frequently targeted by organized crime gangs in Mexico.
