MANAMA: Bahrain and Tajikistan yesterday laid the foundations for co-operation in all fields – especially trade and investments – stressing the importance of supporting joint ventures.
His Majesty King Hamad held key talks with Tajik President Emomalii Rahmon and discussed ways of bolstering co-operation.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa attended the session at Sakhir Palace.
They reviewed bilateral relations and pledged to expand political, economic and trade co-operation and boost investments.
Regional and international developments were also focus of the talks which were attended by delegations of the two countries.
The King affirmed Bahrain’s keen interest in enhancing joint co-operation, stressing the importance of capitalising on both countries’ assets and capabilities.
He expressed hope that the Tajik leader’s visit would usher in a new era of co-operation and build bridges of intercultural and tourism exchanges.
“Bahrain is keen on building strong relations and strategic alliances, based on common visions and ambitions, with friendly countries to boost international security and economic stability,” said His Majesty.
President Rahmon said he was delighted to visit Bahrain and meet the King, hailing the royal welcome and genuine hospitality.
The King bestowed The First Order of Al Khalifia (Wissam Al Khalifia) on the Tajik leader in recognition of his role in promoting co-operation.
President Rahmon thanked the King for the honour and hailed the economic and political strides made by Bahrain under his leadership.
The Tajik leader then conferred the First Order of Prince Ismail ibn Ahmad Samani medal on the King in recognition of his efforts to bolster bilateral relations.
The two leaders later attended a ceremony during which eight agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to promote co-operation in trade, civil aviation, culture, arts, tourism and investments.
His Majesty hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the Tajik President and his delegation.
