Al Nabooda Racing Aim For Flying Start To Porsche GT3 Cup Series
The demands of Bahrain International Circuit, the Middle East’s first Formula One venue, will hold no fears for Al Nabooda Racing at the start of a fourth season of Porsche GT3 Cup racing in the region.
The Dubai-based outfit launch their bid to capture the team title in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East in Bahrain on 16-17 November, and drivers Clemens Schmid and Karim Al Azhari can’t wait for the green light.
Schmid won both of last season’s final two rounds at the venue back in April while Al Azhari also finished on the podium in the penultimate race.
“They both know how to negotiate the Bahrain circuit, and we’ll be aiming to make a great start to the new season,” said Vijay Rao, the Al Nabooda Racing team manager.
“Karim and Clemens are looking forward to teaming up for the first time. They’re both very competitive drivers and obviously want to win races.
“But they both realise this is now a big team effort with much more than individual glory at stake, and they want to work together to get the team into the No.1 spot from the start, and keep us there.”
The two Al Nabooda Racing Porsche GT3 Cup cars are being prepared for the new season in Bahrain by Lechner Racing, who run the series and will shortly confirm the full 2012-13 calendar.
Bahrain International Circuit, where the 12-round championship was launched back in December 2009, is sure to have a big bearing on the 2012-13 title race, with two more double race weekends planned there at the end of the season.
After next month’s season opener in Bahrain, the Porsche GT3 Cup series then heads for Rounds 3 and 4 at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi on 6-7 December and reaches the half way point at Dubai Autodrome the following weekend on 13-14 December.
