Manama, Aug.15 (BNA): A plan to set up a museum retracing the history of the iconic American Mission Hospital (AMH) has today been unveiled.
AMH Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer Dr. George Cheriyan announced the scheme, whose idea was initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
Dr. Cheriyan hailed the royal proposal which, he said, reflected HM the King’s keenness on conserving the long-standing history of the hospital and the pioneering role it played in providing health services to successive generations in Bahrain.
The planned museum will showcase a rare collection of American Mission Hospital (AMH) collectibles, documents and photos which highlighted the dedicated efforts in ensuring healthcare in Bahrain over more than a century.
Dr. Cheriyan said that coordination with Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities(BACA) is underway to approve the required technical standards for such projects.
In a statement to health website “KalamSaha”, he said that the planned museum would hopefully be housed at the old AHM building in Manama.
He paid tribute to HM the King, hailing the continuous royal support for the hospital to assume its responsibility towards the community and provide high-quality healthcare.
He stressed HM the King’s keenness on expanding AMH healthcare services to cover the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, which reflects royal trust in the hospital’s pivotal role.
“The American Mission Hospital is the only health establishment to take part in the three-day Island Classic, regularly held by the Royal Golf Club”, he said, adding that all the proceeds of the annual charity tournament go towards supporting the hospital.
