Anti-Hate and Sectarianism Committee set up in Bahrain

Manama, May. 15. (BNA) – His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa today issued Edict 17 for this year, establishing the Anti-Hate and Sectarianism Committee.

Deputy Premier Jawad bin Salim Al-Arayad will chair the committee, whose members will include the Ministers of Interior, Education, Social Development and Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments.

The committee may seek assistance from specialists and experts to be informed about their views in specific areas, without granting them the right to vote during its meetings.

It shall propose and adopt policies and approaches, prepare effective programmes to address hate discourses emanating from religious platforms, mass media and communication, education or political and social groups, enhance the values of tolerance, reconciliation and co-existence and consolidate unity among members of the Bahraini society.

The panel may request ministries and the relevant sides in the kingdom to provide it with information and data it deems necessary for its work.

The panel’s Chairman shall issue an edict on its work mechanisms.
