ELEVEN Bahrain-based contemporary artists yesterday displayed their collections at an exhibition at the Fine Arts Gallery, Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH).
The event ‘If Walls Could Talk’ explores the defining characteristics of walls as physical structures or theoretical barriers. It is open to the public and will run until January 10.
The exhibit’s manager and curator Yasmin Sharabi has also taken part in the event, along with her sisters Jenine and Karima. All three worked on different media and concepts.
“I worked on these circular forms. I began by focusing on sacred geometry and ended up doing these drawings of labyrinths,” said Ms Sharabi.
“It’s all about finding yourself. It’s quite personal.”
Her sister Jenine produced a more design-based work as she comes from a design background,
“She designed this wallpaper, which from a distance looks like typical, flowery stuff,” explained Ms Sharabi.
“But when you come closer, though, you find all these hidden messages.”
Karima, on the other hand, focused more on spirituality.
“She related it to Sufism. One of her pieces is based on a Sufi poem. and she explored spiritual walls instead of physical ones,” added Ms Sharabi.
The exhibition is open from Sunday to Thursday, from 10am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday from noon to 6pm.
