Australia’s Joseph Mawson emulated V8 Supercars star James Courtney by winning the final round of the under-18 world karting championship in Bahrain on Saturday night.
Competing in a championship boasting 83 drivers from 24 countries, Mawson took out victory in the final race to finish fourth overall in the three-round series.
It’s the first time an Australian has tasted success at world championship level since 2010 V8s champion Courtney won the 1997 championship before forging his successful motorsport career.
Fellow Australian Jacob Parsons charged from 34th to finish 15th in the race.
