Authorities rescue 15 women forced into prostitution in southeast …

Fourteen Mexican women and a Nicaraguan woman forced to work as prostitutes at a bar in Arriaga, a city in the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas, were rescued by authorities, state prosecutors said.

The bar’s manager, identified as Martha Alicia Lopez, was arrested, the Chiapas Attorney General’s Office said.

The young women told investigators that Lopez forced them to work as prostitutes at the El Tropico bar, the AG’s office said.

The women told authorities they were hired as servers, initially cleaning and performing other tasks at the bar, but they were later forced into prostitution.

Lopez forced them to have sex with up to 15 men per day, gave them no time off and monitored them to make sure they did not flee from the brothel, the women said.

El Tropico’s owner, Janeth Hormigo Rodriguez, was arrested several weeks ago and charged with people trafficking, the AG’s office said.

The women were provided with counseling and medical care after being rescued from the bar.

The Nicaraguan Consulate was notified so it could provide assistance to its citizen, the AG’s office said. EFE
