Three Bahrainis made it to the second round of the Bahrain International Challenge 2015 which took place yesterday at the Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
James Varghese, Joshua Yap Zhe Bin and Arjuan Karnavar all recorded victories to qualify for the next round of the Men’s Singles of this badminton event.
Varghese defeated the other Bahraini player, Jayakumar Pullani, 21-12, 21-10, while Yap Zhe Bin qualified for the next round after India’s Abhimanyu Singh failed to show up at the court.
Karnavar also qualified for the next round by a walkover from his Russian opponent, Anatoliy Yartsev, who also failed to show up in their match.
Bahrain’s Nadeem Nahaz and Randy Bacia fell to defeats in the qualifying rounds against Rahul Yadav Chittaboina of India and Yang Ghih Hsun from the Republic of China, respectively.
Uzbekistan’s Amrulla Bakhshullaev scored a 21-4, 21-10 win over Bahrain’s Randy Bacia and recorded the second quickest victory time of 18 minutes.
Top-seeded Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam downed Bahrain’s Sanjay Jaimy 21-0, 21-2.
Subkhanar Dey of India was the record holder of the day for the quickest win after he eliminated Bahrian’s Elyas Jaffar in 13 minutes with a score of 21-9, 21-8.
Bahrain’s Subhash Aroliveettil bowed to eleventh-seeded Sameer Verma of India 21-4, 21-9.
Eight-seeded Howard Shu of the US defeated Bahrian’s Rohit Jaykumar 21-8, 21-3, while sixteenth-seeded Maxime Moreels of Belgium outplayed Bahrain’s Emmanuelle Umali 21-4, 21-5.
Bahrain’s Vishnu Sreekumar fell to India’s Harsheel Dani 21-11, 21-12 and was eliminated alongside Heri Setiawan of Bahrain who tumbled to fourteenth-seeded Martin Giuffre of Canada 21-16, 21-14.
The last Bahrain’s singles competitor of the night was Adnan Ebrahim who fell to a defeat against Frell Keeyann Gabuelo of the Philippines 21-11, 21-14.
Bahrain was not that successful in the doubles as only one team representing the Kingdom advanced out of a total of eight which competed.
Bahrain’s Jaffar Ebrahim and Heri Setiawan defeated their Bahraini counterparts Sanjay Jaimy and Nadeem Nahaz 21-12, 21-10 to advance to the next round.
Bahrain’s Adnana Ebrahim and Elyas Jaffar bowed to top-seeded Michael Fuchs and Johanes Schoettler of Germany 21-4, 21-5.
Bahrain’s Jaffar Ebrahim and Heri Setiawan defeated their Bahraini counterparts Sanjay Jaimy and Nadeem Nahaz 21-12, 21-10 to advance to the next round.
Another team consisting of Arjuan Karnavar and Junith Mottil representing Bahrain were eliminated after losing second-seeded Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar of India 21-4, 21-7.
Fourth-seeded Bodin Issara and Nipitophon Puangpuapech of Thailand eliminated Bahrain’s Togi Mather and James Varghese with a score of 21-11, 21-10.
Seventh-seeded Giovanni Greco and Rosario Maddaloni from Italy defeated Bahrain’s Rohit Jaykuar and Vishnu Sreekumar 21-17, 21-4.
Bahrain’s Subhash Arolivettil and Kayajumar Pullani also fell to defeat to Thailand’s Wannawat Ampunsuwan and Tinn Isriyanate 21-10, 21-12, while Stefan Crasto and Joshua Yap Zhe Bin, who were also representing the Kingdom, were eliminated by Rizwan Azam and Sulehri Kashif of Pakistan following a 21-14, 21-8 defeat.
The mixed doubles also saw Bahrain lose their two games of the day.
The Bahrain team of Randy Bacia and Irish Pastor fell to a 21-6, 21-3 defeat against Thailand’s Tinn Istriyante and Pacharapun Chochuwong, while Sapna Prahbu and Rohit Jaykumar also fell to a 21-6, 21-8 defeat against Thai duo Parinyawat Thongnuam and Natcha Saenchote.
