MANAMA: Bahrain’s Public Security Chief, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, has said that several suspects in the Sitra terror blast have been arrested after they were identified in the investigation launched immediately after the heinous bombing.
The Bahraini News Agency, BNA, quoted Hassan as saying, “such terrorist acts will not stop policemen from carrying out their duties and taking all security and legal procedures against anyone who puts the lives of citizens and residents at risk or attacks public or private property.”
Separately, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has condemned the terrorist attack at Sitra village.
Madani expressed the OIC’s solidarity with Bahrain, rejection of interference in its internal affairs, and support for the security, stability and sovereignty of the country and the unity of its people who are distinguished by moderation and openness.
The Secretary General also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured quick recovery.
He reiterated the OIC’s principled and constant position condemning all forms and manifestations of terrorism, and its commitment to continue to cooperate and coordinate with Member States and all organs and institutions of the OIC to combat terrorism in the framework of the resolutions adopted in this regard.
The Sultanate of Oman also has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Sitra.
The Omani News Agency, ONA, quoted a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which extended its full solidarity with Bahrain, urging the international community to exert all efforts to combat and root out the scourge of terrorism.
Two policemen were killed on Tuesday terrorist attack in Sitra by a group of terrorists who remotely-detonated a bomb planted there.
Six other policemen who sustained serious and medium injuries were taken to hospital and initial reports indicated they were in stable condition.
Various security and legal measures were taken following the incident, including a security deployment and the activation of security points to determine the movement of people in certain areas to ensure the safety of the public and the forces.
