Bahrain celebrates World Meteorological Day

Manama: March 23 – (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain, along with the rest of the world countries, celebrate the World Meteorological Day.

The event marks the anniversary of the agreement under which the World Meteorological Organization was created on March 23, 1950.

This year’s celebration sheds light on the contributions of national meteorological facilities, themed “Weather, climate: Youths Involvement” aimed to focus on encouraging youths to comprehend everything related to climate, weather and weather forecasting.

The Civil Aviation Affairs Acting Undersecretary Ni’ma Al-Ni’ma pointed out the need to invest in young professionals and train them in order to keep abreast of successive, speedy transformations in meteorology, which the Ministry is keen to ensure through its current and future plans and programmes.

He added that communication with, and engaging, youths was a top priority and part of our responsibility to encourage youths to avail of meteorological database and services. He said that the Directorate implements several high-tech projects by installation of advanced high-tech weather forecast systems and equipment, wind radars, atmospheric temperature observatories in order to increase safety at the Bahrain International Airport, develop climatic database and observation mechanisms around the Kingdom of Bahrain and also installation of seismic observation station connected with the main grid in the United Arab Emirates.
