Bahrain completes major air navigation services projects – CAPA

Bahrain Ministry of Transportation announced (02-Jun-2015) the completion of several important projects in order to fulfil its international role in the aviation industry and develop the Kingdom’s air navigation services. Projects include:

  • Creation of a new automatic system to optimise manpower at the Bahrain air traffic control centre (ATCC). The system specifies the number of air controllers required for each shift based on the requirements within the Bahrain FIR. Additionally, the system can be used to identify any potential shortages in the number of air controllers due to vacations or attendance of training courses or absence from duty due to any other reason;
  • Development of a call-out system to further enhance the use of resources of the ATCC. Simultaneously, the second phase of the development of AIM systems project has recently been completed, improving the provision of aeronautical information and distribution to users of Bahrain International Airport and the airspace within the Bahrain FIR;
  • Introduction of an integrated Initial Flight Plan Processing System for use at national/regional levels to support implementation of a future Air Traffic Flow Management system and the adoption of Bahrain as a regional centre flight plan processing;

    Completion of the Bahrain International Airport fibre optic network project to provide connectivity for all surveillance and navigational aids and infrastructure for communications and exchanging aeronautical data;
  • A new automatic aeronautical information broadcast system will be completed, allowing aircraft crew to automatically obtain information about weather and other essential changes; [more – original PR]
