Bahrain: detention of opposition leader inspires protesters

As the hometown of Sheikh Ali Salman remains under heavy security watch, sporadic protests were seen in many areas around Bahrain on Saturday afternoon.

The daily protests have not stopped since the arrest of the opposition leader, Sheikh Ali Salman, after delivering a speech to his party’s General Assembly back in December.

The protesters chanted for Salman’s release highlighting that the Authorities are detaining him for raising legitimate demands for political participation and transition to democracy.

Salman’s hometown in the capital saw night protests despite the heavy security presence surrounding the area.

The protesters also denounced the recent harsh sentences which included revocation of nationalities, life imprisonment and death sentences in unfair trials.
