Bahrain enters Guinness Book of World Records

Manama, Dec24(BNA)Bahrain has today made history, breaking the world record for the most people planting flower bulbs simultaneously. Eight-hundred Bahraini children planted 40,000 red and white petunias, forming the name “King Hamad”, in tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.

Guinness representative Samer Joseph attended the floral event, which was carried out at an area covering over 12,000 square feet at the Awali Roundabout, and certified the new world record.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry organised the event on the Kingdom of Bahrain’s celebrations of its National Days on December 16 and 17, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the modern state of Bahrain as an Arab and Muslim country in 1783 by its founder Ahmed Al-Fateh, the 42nd Anniversary of its accession to the UN as a full member and the 14th Anniversary of HM’s Accession to the Throne.

The current world record for the most people planting flower bulbs simultaneously was achieved by 636 participants in an event organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (UK), at Butt’s Close Park at Hitchin, UK, on 2 October 2010.

Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Dr. Jumaa bin Ahmed Al-Kaabi hailed the historic achievement, paying tribute to the wise leadership for their farsightedness. He hailed the floral record-breaking event as a token of allegiance to the wise leadership and belonging to the homeland.

He paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women.

He commended the ministries of education and interior, the Southern Governorate, the Bahrain Radio and TV, represented of local and international press, thanking Guinness representative Samer Joseph.
