A Bahraini pilot flying for a Saudi-led coalition battling rebels in Yemen survived a jet crash earlier today along the kingdom’s southern border, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency.
On Tuesday, Bahrain’s official news agency BNA reported that three of Bahraini servicemen were killed along Saudi Arabia’s southern border in an accident, without providing more details. However, cross-border fire from the conflict has killed soldiers and civilians in the past.
The Scud missile was shot down with no collateral damage, the statement said. Kuwait is part of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen which kicked off late March and involves more than 10 Saudi regional allies.
Rebels and government loyalists accused one another of repeatedly violating a week-long ceasefire created to coincide with negotiations. One Qatari soldier has also died.
Bahrain is a member of the coalition that has been bombing the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Sudan has also deployed troops in Yemen while Kuwaiti media reported this week that the emirate has chose to send ground forces.
Its pilot was later found dead and his body was returned home.
The statement said a technical fault was to blame for the plane wreck.
