Bahrain foils bid to disrupt life
14 February 2014
Bahrain on Thursday witnessed disturbances a day before the third anniversary of the unrest.
Unrest began in Bahrain on February 14, 2011, with major security issues. Although the situation has vastly improved over the past years, occasional untoward incidents still happen in some areas, mainly in remote villages.
The interior ministry highlighted on its twitter account that vandals were involved in burning tyres, blocking of roads and tried to disrupt normal activities of citizens. The ministry maintained that police force responded to such incidents and restored order and reopened roads.
Meanwhile, the education ministry announced in a statement that criminal elements prevented some school buses from reaching schools and locked gates of a number of schools with chains to prevent students and teachers from entering the schools. With latest incidents, the number of attacks against schools reached 257 since the beginning of the academic year. The education ministry highlighted that despite disturbances classes held smoothly in all schools.
Earlier this week, the chief of public security warned of legal action against those involved in vandalism. He also announced deployment of police force in all areas with potential security incidents.
