Bahrain gearing up for National Action Charter anniversary

Manama, Feb9(BNA)The Kingdom of Bahrain is gearing up for the 13th anniversary of the National Action Charter. The Ministry of Information Affairs has teamed up with the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) to line up a rich programme for the national event, which falls on February14.

Minister of State for Information Affairs and Government’s Official Spokesperson Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab said that other ministries would also contribute to the festivities. In a press briefing following the weekly Cabinet session, she described February 14 as defining moment celebrating the landmark National Action Charter.

“The reform project initiated by His Majesty the King heralded democratic changes which gave all people freedom of expression”, she said. She urged parties advocating particular stances to exercise their right and express their opinions peacefully.

She was commenting on plans of some parties to hold sit-ins and other events on the sidelines of the festivities marking the National Action Charter. Meanwhile, the parties concerned with the national dialogue have yet to submit their visions to the Royal Court.

The minister said that all visions would be announced and released to the media once assessed and scrutinized in deep insight to draft a consensual agenda. “The successive steps will be announced once all visions are submitted to the concerned authority – that is the Royal Court”, she said.

“The independent parties and Al-Wefaq Society have already submitted their visions”, she pointed out, adding that other sides engaged in the National Dialogue have yet to submit theirs. The visions will be evaluated and scrutinised towards reaching a consensual agenda based on the outcome of the mutual meetings between His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and different societies.

Commenting on the recent EU vote, the minister pointed out to parties which are still adamant on orchestrating a campaign of fallacies and fabrications in a bid to defame Bahrain. She underscored the importance for all parties to join ranks and project the true image of Bahrain abroad and debunk the campaign of fallacies and allegations.
