Manama, December 7th (BNA) – On the occasion of the Eighteenth Conference of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP18 held in Doha, Qatar, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr. Jumaa Bin Ahmed Al Kaabi stressed that Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the first countries contributed with the international community to address global warming.

All the member states in the Convention are worried about the increasing dangers of such phenomenon, and actively contribute in establishing the globe’s environmental security and have commitment to the agreement of “Rio Summit + 20” of adopting the charter “The Future We Want.”

Al Kaabi highlighted that the participation in the conference was large which showed the concern of the countries of the world with the effects and consequences of climate change, for that issue has a great impact on all walks of life, particularly the economic, social and environmental.

The importance associated with that issue raised the need to have international collective action to address the phenomenon, where the countries of the world should also have joint cooperation to mitigate the negative effects of this phenomenon, that has dramatically spread, affecting human health, undermine the capabilities of people and natural resources, and continuing to cause climatic disasters.

Al Kaabi pointed out that the developing countries were the most affected by global warming at all levels, for they are the least equipped and prepared to face the crisis and dangerous climatic disasters, that are frequently occurring, affecting the environments and natural resources.

Al Kaabi said that under the directives of the wise leadership, and the respected government, Kingdom of Bahrain has provided great efforts to address the phenomenon of climate change, taking effective steps to reduce emissions, and most importantly to encourage technological partnerships through stimulation of green initiatives, technology transfer and investment in renewable energy sources.

The Wise leadership also called on developing policies in line with the mitigation and adaptation procedures, through national action plans, including the national strategy for climate Change.

Al Kaabi said, “The kingdom always stresses the need to take urgent and effective steps to ensure environmental human rights for generations and also ensure the rights of other living creatures that share us the life on this planet.”
