The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Sri Lanka today emphasized their resolve to boost their bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism, bilaterally and multi-laterally within the frame of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) and the United Nations (UN). The two countries condemned terrorism in all of its forms and manifestations, the Bahrain News agency reported.
The two sides issued a Joint Communiqué upon conclusion of the official state visit by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Kingdom of Bahrain during which he had high-level official talks and also bilateral agreements were signed between Bahrain and Sri Lanka which opened a new folio in the history of their relationship and gave a strong push to boost bilateral cooperation on trade, investment, education, sports, culture and arts.
The Joint Communiqué affirmed the importance of developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of defence and security and working on boosting the exchanging of information, intelligence and security evaluations, adding that the two sides have exchanged views regarding regional and international issues of shared interest, including the security situation in the Middle East and Central Asia, asserting the need for peaceful solution to all regional and international issues through dialogue.
The Joint Communiqué pointed out that the two sides approved potential increasing of the volume of mutual trade between the two countries, agreed to take the necessary steps to encourage and push the trade relations and increase mutual investments. The two sides also agreed to pave suitable investment environment from both countries through the exchanging of information related to available investment opportunities regularly and speedily between the two friendly countries.
