A new parliamentary report has said the number of expats in Bahrain should not exceed 50 percent of the kingdom’s population.
Parliament will this week debate the findings of the report by the committee in charge of replying to King Hamad’s keynote speech at the opening of the second term of the fourth legislative session, according to Gulf Daily News.
One of the key recommendations is that Bahrain should impose a limit on the number of foreign workers in the country so that it doesn’t exceed 50 percent.
The last census in Bahrain in 2010 found that expats comprise 54 percent of Bahrain’s population.
The committee also recommends that Bahrain uses funds from the GCC Development Fund to complete the major infrastructure and industrial projects, which will free up revenue and investment to be used elsewhere.
There was a further recommendation to reduce officials’ travel expenses.
