Bahrain ‘must reach out to reveal unrest reality’

MANAMA: The world has realised, although late, that Bahrain’s unrest is not part of the ‘Arab Spring’ revolution but a result of foreign interferences to destabilise the country and the Gulf, a top official said yesterday.

But it is still necessary for officials to reach out to influential countries and international organisations to inform the world about Bahrain’s reforms, which are unprecedented at the regional level, Bahrain-American Council president Dr Sadaq Khalfallah said.

The efforts by Bahrain’s leadership are in harmony with the UN goals of achieving peace, security and development, he said.

The council president, who is in Bahrain to take part in the International Youth Conference which ended on Thursday, said international attitude towards what happened in Bahrain has changed greatly after the report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry.

Dr Khalfallah praised the leadership’s courage in combating terrorism, promoting security as well as fostering public freedoms and democratic gains.

He also hailed the success of the conference in attracting delegations from 32 countries to discuss how youngsters from across the globe can help achieve peace.

The council was set up five years ago to strengthen Bahraini-US relations, promote investments and cultural co-operation.
