The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has named Supreme Council for Youth and Sports general secretary and Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa as VIP board member during the elections to be held on June 11.
This came at a recently-held board meeting, which took place at the committee premises in Seef under the chairmanship of Shaikh Salman, who is also vice-president of the BOC.
Also present at the meeting were acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, board members Shaikh Sabah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Adel Al Assomi, Ali Issa Isaaq, Daoud Hussein Al Manea, Abdullah Al Dossary and Samir Showaiter.
The entire Board of Directors agreed to choose Shaikh Salman for this new post, which is in recognition of his outstanding role and contributions in supporting and developing sports and youth movement in the kingdom, in general and football in particular.
Shaikh Salman, on his part, started his speech by thanking the BOC board forconveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Olympic Committee.
And the face of His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee and the previous executive management for their good efforts in the past four years, which led to the sporting achievements at various levels, thanks to the support and assistance received by committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The meeting discussed several topics on its agenda, the most significant which were the report of the 17th meeting of the board, and discussing arrangements for the general assembly meeting to be held on June 11.
Other topics included adopting the lists of candidates, and financial and administrative report as well as proposals submitted by the sports federations, and all the arrangements for the election to ensure transparency and democracy.
The board also looked into the amendments of committee statute, as the Chief Executive Officer post was cancelled, while his duties will now be undertaken by the general secretary.
A purpose-formed committee has been formed, comprising Askar, Shaikha Hayat, Shaikh Sabah and legal councelour Moneer Al Sagheer and sports advisor Abduljalil Asad, to look into other amendments on the statute.
