Bahrain opposition says to boycott November election

DUBAI (AFP) — Bahrain’s Shiite-led opposition announced on Saturday that it would boycott parliamentary elections planned for November in the Sunni-ruled kingdom.

Five opposition groups, including the Shiite movement al-Wefaq, said in a statement that the election “cements absolute rule in Bahrain.”

The polls will be the first since a Shiite-led uprising rocked the Gulf state in 2011.
