Bahrain participates in Warsaw’s talks on climate change

Manama, November 13 (BNA) – A delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain has taken part in the opening session of the 19th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Eighth Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, being held in the Polish capital Warsaw.
Bahrain is represented by an official delegation, chaired by the Supreme Council for Environment, that includes representatives from relevant ministries and parties in the Kingdom.
The Conference is considered the only text that provides a clear mechanism obliging states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions causing global warming according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Polish Minister of Environment inaugurated the Conference attended by high-level delegations and representatives from more than 190 countries, as well as non-governmental organisations, civil community institutions and international research and scientific centres.
The Supreme Council for Environment is represented by by Zahwa Al kawari and Susan Al Ajawi.
The Conference, which will run until November 22 aims at defining the outline of the new agreement expected to be issued initially in 2015.
The Bahraini delegation is working closely with its counterparts from the Arab countries and the regional organizations such as the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to include all the requirements and concerns of the Kingdom and the states of the region in the new agreement.
