Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority is set to build three power plants to meet the island’s growing demand for electricity, Bahrain’s Akhbar Al-Khaleej reported Sunday (November 24th).
A contract has been signed with a British consultant to prepare the project design and engineering work and to oversee execution of the project, which is funded by a Kuwaiti grant and is expected to cost 280 million dinar ($740 million) in its first phase, said the Authority’s chief executive officer, Nawaf Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
The three plants are located in al-Hadd, Umm al-Hassam and al-Raffah, and are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016, he added.
The project will help with the efficient transfer of electric power from production plants to consumers across the country and deal with the growing demand for energy, he said.
