Bahrain to host Corporate Social Responsibility Conference

Manama, Jan. 26 — (BNA): The Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE) said the Second Bahrain International Social Responsibility Conference to be held next month comes at a time when the country is looking to mobilise its energy for community service.
The event, under the patronage of Minister of Energy Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, is being organised by the Society on February 9-11 in cooperation with the National Oil and Gas Authority and supported by the Arab Network for Social Responsibility.

In a statement, BSE President Masoud Ebrahim Al-Hermi said all aspects of social responsibility and community service would be discussed during the event, sponsored by the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC).

He said the conference and the accompanying exhibition would contribute greatly to the promotion of such activities by various companies leading, in the long run, to greater profitability and increased business.

Al-Hermi said the event would be an opportunity for participants to meet with experts and those in the region interested in discussing the latest developments in social care and Company affairs and how to guide projects and initiatives that help and benefit the community. He outlined the importance of the gathering and said it would gather many dignitaries and decision makers under one roof, in addition to being an opportunity to develop business and discover opportunities provided by local and global markets.

Al-Hermi said Bahrain has the high standards and reputation to successfully host major conferences and events. He also praised the significant role of GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery in following up on daily preparations for the gathering and said the Company’s diamond sponsorship was proof of its commitment to promoting social responsibility issues, its care for and protection of the environment to achieve sustainability.

He thanked the conference organising committee headed by Abdulmajeed Al-Qassab for its work to ensure the event’s success and said it was expected to attract several hundred participants from across the region and beyond.

Dr. Jawahery said Al-Hermi and Al-Qassab and praised the role of the BSE in supporting the national economy and attracting foreign investment in the engineering field and organizing events, conferences and specialized workshops.

He said the Company is keen on supporting the event since social responsibility one of the main pillars of the Company’s successes. He said the inaugural event was a big success with participants from across the region and beyond attending.

He said this confirms the importance of the subject of corporate social responsibility and in which Bahrain had taken considerable interest. Dr. Jawahery said Bahrain’s oil, industrial and commercial sectors have benefitted out of GPIC initiatives, which have focused on the development of human resources and to prepare young people to succeed at the local and global level.

Dr. Jawahery said environmental issues get a lot of attention from the Company Management, which is evident from the number of environmentally friendly projects implemented within the GPIC complex. The Company, he said, is also committed to support the efforts of institutions and the government to achieve sustainable real development on the social and economic levels. He said the Company considers social responsibility programmes an ideal tool to support its efforts to achieve its objectives to develop society and meet local needs.

The BSE, founded in 1972, now has 1,340 members and is one of the most important and largest professional associations in Bahrain and the Gulf region. The society is now seeing to strengthen its links and document scientific and technical cooperation between engineers in Bahrain on the one hand and between them and their colleagues in the Arab countries and the rest of the world on the other.
