Trade Arabia reported that Bahrain is set to save hundreds of thousands of dinars through energy conservation initiatives, a top official said that.
Electricity and Water Authority distribution and customer services deputy chief executive Mr Adnan Fakhro said the EWA had been taking serious steps on energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.
He was speaking during a Press conference at the Gulf Hotel to announce the Energy and Water Conservation Expo and Forum to be held next month.
He said that “Several energy efficiency measures are currently being implemented such as thermal insulation in buildings, building rating system, green buildings, the standards and labelling of room air-conditioners, energy auditing and the continuous enhancement of energy efficiency in lighting.”
He added that a growing number of infrastructure projects were being designed with conservation in mind.
He said that “Many public roads are increasingly being illuminated in Bahrain either through more efficient luminaries, such as LED lights, or are being fed through solar energy. Once all these initiatives are in place, Bahrain will end up saving hundreds of thousands of dinars and become more energy efficient.”
Next month’s Energy and Water Conservation Expo and Forum, from June 17th to 19th is organised by the Bahrain Society of Engineers at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre under the patronage of Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Mr Abdulhussain MIrza.
Bahrain has already announced plans to build a 5 megawatt power station using solar and wind energy, which is due to be implemented in the next 5 years.
Mr Fakhro said that “There are also many programs that aim to improve the efficiency of lighting. We are now co operating with the Finance Ministry and the World Bank to launch a special project in the housing sector, by replacing nearly 2 million ordinary bulbs with energy saving ones that leads to reduced electricity consumption by at least 245 GWh annually contributing to maintaining vital resources in Bahrain and reducing polluting emissions by more than 180 tonne per year.”
