Bahrain to mark World Safety, Health Day

Manama,Apr.27(BNA) Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan hailed Bahrain’s strides in promoting safety and health standards at works as the kingdom on Tuesday marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
In a message on the eve of the annual UN day, he underlined importance of disseminating health and safety at work to avert dangers which threaten workers’ lives and disrupt work. He cited edict 2 for 2015, issued by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, establishing the Health and Vocational Safety Council, which reflects keenness on improving work environment.
“Professional safety and health is no longer a luxury in the labour market nowadays”, said Humaidan, stressing the importance of investing in human resources an ensuring them protection. He pointed out that any negligence or laxity may cause human and material losses which can be detrimental to work facilities, commending the role of civil society institutions in disseminating health and safety awareness. He announced that the ministry would soon start reviewing legislation and edicts relating to professional health and safety standards. The ministry also intends to intensify awareness campaigns and step up cooperation with concerned Government departments.
