Bahrain to probe foreign funding
Our Correspondent / 17 June 2014
Various government bodies in Bahrain have been asked to inquire into reports hinting at attempts to interfere into Bahrain’s internal affairs through a number of programmes implemented by some international institutes and organisations.
An order in this respect was issued His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa while chairing a cabinet session on Sunday.
He directed ministries to inquire into reports that some individuals and institutions had received assistance to be trained outside the country, in violation of legal norms, and submit a detailed report to the cabinet so that those proven guilty would be held accountable.
The interior ministry announced last week the launch of investigations into reports about a US document on the American-Middle East Partnership Initiative and the possible attempts to unseat governments in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt. The assistant undersecretary of legal affairs said that the interior ministry is studying the document to determine if any legal violation had occurred. This includes the use or reception of money from any source for incidents that occurred in Bahrain in 2011.
