Bahrain has submitted a complaint to the United Nations denouncing the Iranian regime’s “interference” in its internal affairs, the BNA news agency said Friday.
“Al-Ayam” newspaper has affirmed that Iran’s “outrageous” policies have led Bahrain to recall its ambassador from Tehran and declare the Iranian Chargé D’affaire as a person non-grata who should leave the country within 72 hours.
The Bahraini ministry also said that it took this measure against Iran “for its recurrent blatant violations of all worldwide norms, laws and conventions as well as the principles of good neighbourliness, mutual respect and for its unacceptable encroachment on the independence and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bahrain”.
Authorities in Bahrain said Wednesday that they had uncovered a large stash of weapons and arrested a number of people suspected of having links with Iran and Iraq. Bahrain and its major ally, Saudi Arabia, worry about growing Iranian influence in the Mideast.
The cache included a tonne and a half of C4 explosives and other explosive material, as well as automatic rifles, pistols, and hand grenades, according to the ministry.
In today’s editorial, Al-Ayam said that Bahrain’s foreign policy has always been calm, wise, balanced and not hasty even at dark circumstances, and reaching this stage in the diplomatic relations with Iran means that the latter has crossed all red lines.
The Islamic Republic has urged the Bahraini government to stop pursuing a security approach toward the tensions in the country and solve its problems through dialog.
Scores of people have been killed and hundreds more injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
