According to the Bahraini delegation, none of the government’s promised reforms that are necessary will happen unless Bahrain’s allies, mainly Saudi Arabia, Britain and the United States stop their support for the regime and join the international community in expressing their concerns. They also dismissed claims that Iran is interfering in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
Bahrain’s revolution beganlast year when demonstrators took to the streets to hold anti-regime rallies. But the Bahraini government was quick to crackdown the peaceful protests. It also called in Saudi-led Arab forces from neighboring Persian Gulf states. Many people have been killed in the crackdown so far and the security forces have arrested hundreds, including doctors and nurses for treating injured protesters.
A new report by the Islamic Human Rights Commission says, quote, in the absence of an elected and representative government, the government of Bahrain continues to use excessive force in its campaign of suppression. The commission also accuses Manama of torturing political activists and protesters. Ghanbar Naderi, Press TV, Tehran
