TWELVE Bahraini pilgrims in Iraq escaped unhurt after an unidentified man wearing military uniform shot at a bus they were travelling in yesterday.
The incident happened at around 3.30pm when they were on their way to Karbala from Baghdad.
‘We were halfway through our journey from Baghdad after visiting the shrine, when a man wearing a military uniform appeared from nowhere and started shooting at the bus,’ said Mohammed Eid, who was among the pilgrims.
‘We didn’t know if he was a military man or just wearing that uniform, but the bus was attacked from the opposite side of the highway and the attacker then came running towards the bus.
‘When he came near, the driver pressed the accelerator and drove away. The bus was damaged but thanks to the quick actions of the driver we are still alive.’
The bus driver later stopped near a police checkpoint and reported the case to the officers, Mr Eid said.
No one from the Iraq Embassy in Bahrain or Bahrain Embassy in Baghdad were available for comment when contacted by the GDN.
