Bahraini sentenced to 35 years for rape, robbery

MANAMA – Bahrain’s high criminal court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 35 years in jail for robbing and raping a woman.

“The court issued its ruling in the case of rape and robbery suffered by a woman in the area of Manama, where it condemned that the defendant was guilty, and charged him with life imprisonment on charges of raping a female without her consent and imprisonment for 10 years on charges of robbing her as well,” Capital’s Chief Prosecutor Fahd Al Buainain said.

The prosecution initiated the investigations once it received the communique, where it listened to the statement of the victim who provided a brief about the circumstances of the incident and that the defendant stole money and valuable items, after raping her.

A medical examiner stated in his report that there were injuries on various parts of victims’s body and significant signs of rape consistent with her story about the incident.

The prosecution also listened to a number of witnesses, and issued a verdict after hearing the words of the victim requesting investigations about the incident to identify the defendant.

The defendant was arrested the following day, and when confronted with the evidences, he was sent to custody pending investigations.

He was then charged with raping the female without her consent and with robbing her as well.
