Bahrain’s actual deficit hit BHD455 million last year

The Bahraini cabinet revealed on Saturday that the actual revenues in the final account of the state increased by 11 per cent to BHD3.09 billion compared with 2014 estimates, reports Saudi-based Alyaum.

The cabinet points out that actual expenditures decreased by 11 per cent below the estimates reaching about BHD3.54bn.

It also says that the actual deficit was BHD455m, which is 62 per cent below the estimated deficit.

The estimated deficit in the previous budget was about BHD1.1bn, but the decline in expenses led to lower numbers, as Bahrain is currently following a rational spending policy in the budget.

The deficit in the budget for the financial year 2015-2016 amounted to about BHD1.5bn, while the available budget for every year is estimated at BHD3.5bn.

The cabinet announced stability in the quarterly unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2015 at 3.7 per cent, with the number of unemployed at 6,943 while 4,674 jobs are on offer.

The cabinet was also briefed, through a memorandum presented by the labour minister, on the labour market’s indicators for the first quarter of 2015.

Statistics showed that the number of recruited national job seekers had sharply increased to 6,952, including 2,832 employed in March.
