Bahrain’s census strides commended

Manama, July5 (BNA) Bahrain has been ranked in top position in the Asian, Arab and regional levels through its dedication to development and human resources growth.

This has led to seeking Bahrain’s expertise in many fields by regional bodies, including the invitation of the Arab Statistic Office to the Central Informatics Organization (CIO) at the Interior Ministry to organize workshops in Egypt with participants from Arab countries.

About choosing Bahrain to hold those event, Director of ID and Population Records, Naziah Al Jowdr said: “The focus of workshops in Egypt were on administrative records that we call it here in Bahrain the population record that contains names of individuals, organizations and buildings. A workshop will be held on the best way to census organizations .”

Bahrain has been chosen for being a pioneer in this field in the Middle East as it has started working on administrative records since 1985 few years after some developed countries. Bahrain was also the first country after Scandinavian countries that implemented census that is based on administrative records in 2010.

“This doesn’t mean other countries don’t carry census, they do it through field survey by collecting data through visits, while Bahrain gets the information through administrative records,” he said.

Al Jowder said that Bahrain started the census in 1940 and carries it every ten years, in which the last one was on 2010. “Our goal is to collect data immediately for example the birth and death of individuals or moving to a new education level should be registered in the records at the same time of their occurrence, this will help not to wait to get a clear statistics every ten years but in annual basis,” he explained.
