Bar Louie donates $47K to first responders group

San Antonio.- A bar and restaurant nestled in the Stone Oak area celebrated an important milestone by giving back to first responders.

In honor of their one year anniversary, Bar Louie donated all net sales from May 1 through May 4 as well as any money raised at its firefighter date auction to Bexar County Emergency Scene Rehab, a nonprofit volunteer organization consisting of off-duty and retired EMT’s, firefighters, police officers and other civilians.

“We wanted to show our appreciation for the local community for supporting us last year and welcoming us with open arms into San Antonio,” Marketing Manager for Bar Louie Stone Oak, Amanda Utter told La Prensa. “We thought the best way to celebrate would be to give back to the local community.”

The emergency rehab group responds to emergency scenes and offers medical treatment, hydration, shelter, food supplies and other services first responders may need to carry out a job.

Founder of the nonprofit and local EMT, Robert Briggs told La Prensa the donation will help out tremendously.

“It’s the largest donation we’ve ever received,” an excited Briggs told La Prensa. “It’s going to allow us to do in one year what it would normally take us four years to do, so I mean it is just, we really don’t have words to say about it, it’s just fantastic and it’s going to let us go a long ways.”

The majority of the funds will be used to refurbish an old 44-foot bus and will allow them to purchase a 37-foot bus from the blood and tissue centers. The volunteers mold the inside of the bus to the needs of first responders.

With the expansion of the fleet, the organization will be able to respond up to five scenes at any given time.

The remaining funds will be put towards supplies and education materials at their headquarters, where they hold free CPR classes and other fire safety classes.
