BCCI to Organise Workshop on Global Network of ATA Carnets Implementation

Manama, Sept. 14. (BNA) — Aiming to raise awareness about the benefits and the procedures for the implementation of the ATA Carnet system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) will be hosting a two-day Implementation Workshop on 24th and 25th September 2013 in the Business Hall on the 3rd floor of the Chamber’s building “Bait Al Tijjar” in Sanabis.
The ATA Carnets, the so-called passport for goods, is an international Customs document, that facilitates the temporary admission of goods into other countries without the need for the normal customs procedures. Administered by the World Chambers Federation (WCF) of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce, (ICC), currently there are more than 70 countries in the global network of ATA Carnets.

After Bahrain became a signatory to the ‘Istanbul Convention” on Temporary Movement of Commercial Goods in 2012, BCCI has been appointed as the National Guaranteeing and Issuing Organization of ATA Carnets said Eng. Nabeel A.Rahman Al-Mahmood, Acting CEO of BCCI. The expansion of world trade, has led to significant growth of temporary exports and imports of different kinds of goods and the anticipated implementation of ATA Carnets in Bahrain, the national economy is set to benefit from the simplified customs procedures, Eng Nabeel added. This workshop follows the workshop held in coordination with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in the month of August.

The workshop will be presented by Mrs. Lee Ju Song, the Regional Director of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Asia office and the Chair of the ICC World Chambers Federation International Certificate of Origin Council and a member of the ICC WCF International CO Accreditation Committee, ICC WCF World ATA Carnet Council and ATA Carnet Administrative Committee.

The two day workshop will be from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Due to seat limitation, BCCI encourages all interested parties and stakeholders to confirm their attendance.
