Beirut hosts international conference on Bahrain human rights

Raising awareness and revealing the reality on the ground appeared to be a key objective as human rights violations against peaceful protesters in Bahrain continue.

What distinguished this gathering was the strong participation of foreigners, many of whom have had a firsthand account of the situation in Bahrain.

Amber Lyon is a former CNN journalist who had filmed a documentary about the revolution in the Persian Gulf Kingdom. She spoke of her plans to shed further media spotlight.

While such conferences may not lead to overnight changes, they just might be the launching pad to further globalize the situation in Bahrain, which is widely regarded as one of the world’s most neglected issues.

Since the beginning of the Bahraini revolution back in February 2011 Bahrain has been overshadowed by other world events, namely the situation in Syria. And while there is no evidence of non-peaceful protests in Bahrain , Saudi forces have entered the country to confront the demonstrators.

After almost two years since the beginning of the Bahraini revolution there appears to be some momentum regarding raising international awareness towards this issue.People here hope that this awareness will reach the stage whereby it will stop the political cover for the Bahraini leadership.
