Qatar Air shifts to HIA
KATHMANDU: Qatar Airways on Tuesday commenced full operations at its new state-of-the-art hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA). With the first Qatar Airways commercial flight QR1113 from Bahrain landing at HIA at 09:10 local time, all operations for all airlines have now been transferred to HIA, as per the press release. “Qatar Airways will be able to offer an exceptional passenger experience, as HIA has been designed with passengers foremost in mind. The airport will also be able to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft, such as our much-anticipated Qatar Airways Airbus A380 which will commence operations to the UK in June and France in July,” the release quotes Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO, as saying. Passengers travelling on Tuesday were greeted with roses, dates, coffee, chocolate and Qatari flags. They were also able to take advantage of the many new services available at HIA, from the free wi-fi to play areas for children, multiple quiet areas to relax, and the amazing array of shopping and eating options. — HNS
Infosys prez resigns
BANGALORE: Infosys President and board member BG Srinivas has resigned, the company said on Wednesday, the latest in a series of
senior management exits at India’s second-largest software services exporter. Srinivas’ resignation is effective from June 10, the company said in a statement to the exchanges. Infosys did not give any reason for the resignation of Srinivas, who was seen as one of the candidates to become the next chief executive when Chief Executive SD Shibulal resigns early next year. Srinivas’ resignation adds to the exodus of staff and senior executives since Infosys brought back from retirement its founder NR Narayana Murthy to help revive its fortunes in June last year. — Reuters
German employment
BERLIN: Germany’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 per cent in May, but the traditional springtime decline was smaller than expected. The Federal Labour Office said on Wednesday that 61,000 fewer people were without work compared with April, when the unemployment rate was 6.8 per cent. Overall, 2.88 million people were without work in May. — AP
