Amman, Aug. 6. (BNA) –The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) participated in the Emergency Meeting of the red crescent and cross societies held here yesterday to discuss the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and coordinate Arab efforts to support the Palestine Red Crescent Society in order to enable it to assume its humanitarian role there.
BRCS Secretary-General Dr. Fawzi Ameen said that BRCS had participated in the meeting, alongs
ide representatives of 16 other RC societies, in order to be informed about the real needs of the brotherly Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and coordinate with the relevant sides to provide the necessary support so as to alleviate their sufferings as a result of the Israeli offensive.
He pointed out that a 40-tonne Bahraini relief aid shipment had already arrived in Gaza, adding that Bahraini aid has increased since the beginning of the Israeli attack on the strip.
He highlighted the important role played by the BRCS, in cooperation and coordination with the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), to help the Palestinians in Gaza, noting that those efforts will be stepped up in the coming period.
PRCS President Yunes Al-Khatib detailed the participants on the tragic situation of the Palestinians in Gaza.
The participants recommended a meeting of the Arab RC societies to discuss the continuing Israeli on Gaza, and urged the UN and humanitarian organisations to compel Israel to respect and adhere to International and humanitarian laws.
They also called for the need to activate the fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation for Relief Development (JHCO) had received yesterday at “Marca” military airport a Bahraini cargo plane carrying relief aid to the distressed in Gaza, presented by RCO.
RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayyad, the Bahraini Ambassador to Jordan Nasser Al-Ka’abi and the First Secretary of the Palestinian Embassy here Bassam Hajjawi were at the Airport.
