Britain’s Bahraini community mark 2 years since revolution

Those here in London stood by them any way they could.

Many are political exiles whose lives are at risk, others have had their citizenship revoked.

From sit-ins to protests to climbing the Bahraini embassy. They kept the message alive whatever the weather.

And the rain couldn’t stop them from coming out on the second anniversary of the revolution. As talks of more reconciliation talks reverberate. These protesters are reiterating their firm demands.

Where other uprisings have received regional and international support; promotion by the media, and arms by the west. The Bahraini revolution has had to fend for itself.

the revolution was not tempted to take a violent reaction to the repression of the regime and this is to their own advantage, they proved to the world, and to the middle east taht actually they are a very civilized and decent revolution, not like the so-called revolutions that we have seen in Syria and Libya where they ally themselves with nato forces and western forces

One of the consequences has been that two years on many westerns don’t even know what is going on.

Q. Have you heard about a revolution going on Bahrain.
A1. Actually i have never heard about this, i think i am too educated, i seriously have no idea 0015
A2 – I haven’t im afraid. No
Q. There havebeen protests there for two years is that something youve seen on the news?
A1. Not really
But the revolution continues and activists like Saeed Shehabi say that Bahrain should be seen in the context of the whole Arab spring.

what we see today in Tunisia and Egypt, is only an indication to what extent the counter-revolution forces are ready to go to ensure no real change in the middle east and the Arab world would be allowed. They are going to kill, to assassinate, to create all confusion, to ensure these revolutions will not succeed

The people are determined that it will. Here, the protest ended at the Bahraini embassy, where the familiar chant – heard across the region could be heard – the people want the fall of the regime.
