Bahrain Cinema Company (Cineco) is investing $6.5 million to open a six-screen cineplex and a branch of Rendezvous restaurant in Wadi Al Sail Mall in Riffa, it was announced.
The announcement follows the signing of a leasing agreement between Cineco and Dara Innovation, the exclusive managing agent for the Wadi Al Sail Complex, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Construction work for the project has already started and once all civil works are completed, Cineco will proceed with the necessary fittings for the Cineplex followed by the same for Rendezvous.
The target date for the completion of all works is mid-March next year, said Cineco chief executive Ahmed Rashed after signing the deal with Dara Innovation managing director Helene Salem in the presence of key officials representing both sides.
“The decision to develop a new cineplex in Wadi Al Sail Mall is strategic as its location in Riffa makes it well-placed to cater to movie-goers from Riffa and surrounding areas,” stated Rashed.
It also aligns with the company’s goal to provide cinemas near to customers’ homes and spread its footprint across the kingdom.
The new cineplex will seat 809 and make use of the latest technology, Rashed added.
The company’s vision is to have a nation-wide network of multiplexes, screening quality movies of international acclaim using the most advanced technology available.
Cineco also operates a number of restaurants.
Established in 1968 in Bahrain, Cineco now owns and operates a total of 44 cinema screens in Bahrain and 27 screens in Qatar. – TradeArabia News Service
