MANAMA: Bahrain rejects any divisions, or classification of the components, of Bahraini society, it was declared yesterday.
Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa underlined the kingdom’s firm stance as he received European Union’s (EU) Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis.
He also highlighted the ministry’s efforts to preserve national unity and achievements.
He praised strong relations between Bahrain and the EU and stressed Bahrain’s commitment to enforcing the law on all.
Freedom of expression is guaranteed for all within the framework of law and institutions, the minister said.
He added that the current parliament reflects the real image of Bahraini society.
Lt Gen Shaikh Rashid expressed his firm resolve to press ahead with comprehensive development and modernisation process for his ministry through an exhaustive programme.
Public Security chief Major General Tariq Al Hassan presented a briefing on the Interior Ministry’s development and modernisation strategy through intensive training and cutting-edge equipment.
He also spotlighted the security and legal measures taken to deal with the recent troubles in the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre.
The meeting was attended by Interior Ministry Under-Secretary Major General Khalid Salam Al Absi and security media and legal affairs directors.
