Co-operation vow over rights visit

THE Interior Minister yesterday received a technical team of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, led by Middle East and North Africa Department head Faraj Fneish.

UN Resident Co-ordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Peter Grohmann also attended.

The minister pledged the ministry’s co-operation with all regional and international organisations to promote human rights principles, explaining a co-operation committee has been formed to facilitate the OHCHR delegation’s task in Bahrain.

He expressed pride in His Majesty’s reforms and stressed the importance of social co-existence among all sects of Bahraini community.

He emphasised that the protection of human rights and freedoms are guaranteed by the Constitution of Bahrain.

He said Bahrain is resolved to prepare an appropriate atmosphere for the continuation of the National Consensus Dialogue.

The delegation head expressed condolences on the death of policeman AbdulWaheed Sayyed Mohammed Al Balooshi, who was killed in a terrorist bombing in Dair on 14 February.
They also discussed strengthening mechanisms of co-operation and co-ordination.
