March 22, 2013

PUTRAJAYA, March 22 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today received a courtesy call from the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.

The Crown Prince, who is also Bahrain’s First Deputy Prime Minister, is here on a three-day working visit, and this is the first high-level visit by a Bahrain leader to Malaysia, since 2012.

Upon arrival at the Perdana Putra building here at around 4.45pm straight from the Bunga Raya Complex at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Prince Salman (picture) was ushered to the prime minister’s office at Level 5.

The Crown Prince, who is also deputy supreme commander of the Bahrain armed forces, was accompanied by two ministers and senior government officials.

Prince Salman is scheduled to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara tomorrow, before attending a luncheon hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Wisma Putra in a statement yesterday expressed Malaysia’s confidence that the visit will further strengthen ties between Malaysia and Bahrain, for both countries to enjoy cordial relations.

Bahrain is Malaysia’s ninth largest trading partner in West Asia and Malaysia’s total investment in Bahrain, especially in the financial and construction sectors, was encouraging.

On trade ties, the value of trade between the two countries amounted to RM901.27 million (USD291.67 million). — Bernama
