De Jong to make return from injury in Bahrain

GP2 racer Daniel de Jong, who was sidelined earlier this year after a heavy shunt, will make his return to the category in the penultimate round of 2015 in Bahrain.

De Jong clashed with DAMS driver Pierre Gasly at Spa and went into the barriers at high speed, sustaining vertebrae fractures that required subsequent surgery.

Having missed two rounds, the Dutchman will now be returning to GP2, albeit replacing Johnny Cecotto at Trident instead of reuniting with his usual MP Motorsport outfit – as MP already has deals in place for Bahrain with Rene Binder and Nicholas Latifi.

De Jong has been virtually inseparable from MP over his junior single-seater career, racing for the team in various championships since 2008.

At Trident, he will link up with Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello. The Italian squad currently sits seventh in the standings – and de Jong will become the fifth different driver of the team’s 2015 campaign.

Beretta contunues with GP3 squad

Trident’s GP3 team, which has fielded a different line-up in each of the last four rounds, will get some continuity in Bahrain.

F3 driver Michele Beretta will continue racing for the squad, lining up again alongside Artur Janosz and title contender Luca Ghiotto.
