New York, Sep 2 (BNA): The parliamentary delegation, on the sidelines of its participation in the fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York, stressed the vital role of parliaments in establishing democracy and promoting development through enacting laws and coordinating with the executive branch.
The delegation pointed out Bahrain’s democratic progress that has witnessed many constitutional amendments aimed at granting the legislative branch broader legislative and regulatory authority over the executive branch, which reflects Bahrain’s interest in upholding democracy.
The delegation noted that investment in the Bahraini citizen was a key factor in the development programmes in Bahrain.
It also highlighted the challenges faced by the Gulf region, including extremism and violence carried out by terrorist groups, which have become a serious threat to regional security and stability, as well as the blatant interference in the internal affairs of the region’s states.
