Deputy Premier launches wastewater treatment project

Manama, Dec.13 (BNA): A project to construct a wastewater treatment plant has today been given the go-ahead in the Northern Town. Deputy Premier, Head of the Ministerial Committee for Construction and Infrastructure Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa launched the development scheme in the presence of senior officials and guests.


The ten-hectare sewage plant will have a daily output of 85 ,000 cubic metres of recycled water which will be used for irrigating urban beautification trees and green spaces. The new treatment plant has been designed in compliance with required ecological requirements for dumping water in the sea without damaging marine life. The station will also be technically equipped to dry and dispose of waste in an environment-friendly way. It can also recycle sewage water into fertilizers which can be used in urban green spaces.

In a statement on this occasion, the Deputy Premier said that the residential towns which are under construction in Bahrain reflect the Government’s resolve to ensure citizens quality housing. “The Government has started implementing the royal order which was issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to construct 40,000 housing units”, he said.

He paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier for following up the implementation of the Government Action Plan (GAP). He stressed particularly the Government’s commitment to construct 25,000 units across Bahrain by 2018, develop housing policies and ensure citizens obtain adequate funding to own their houses.
